Bobroshkov's Dream

Abalino Dance Theatre presents three short pieces that provide insightful glimpses into the surreal world of growing old. At times wistful, fragile and human, the pieces look with humour and grace at moments in the lives of 3 characters. They can be presented individually or as a triple bill.

"Bobroshkov’s Dream" is a delightful and dreamy work. It was inspired by the warmth inside and the loneliness outside of an old man's memory; by the old men that watch the world, but see the past. Through a series of images and metamorphoses, it tells the story of a magical world of hopes and dreams that is awoken as an old man struggles to put his slippers on... (20mins)

"Silas" focuses on the effect of an unexpected change in a worn and tired existence... The journey of a tired traveller, laden with a heavy rucksack, his memories hanging as if on a washing-line, bleaching and fading in the sun... 'Silas' finds solace at the end of his journey, and undergoes a strange and beautiful metamorphosis. (20mins)

"Man’s life is laid in the loom of time
To a pattern he does not see,
As the Weaver works and the shuttles fly..." (Anon)
"Weave" is an enchanting and fantastical view of the life and actions of an old woman at her loom. A surreal exploration of the relationship between a mother and her children. (20mins)
